City councilor Victor mysteriously disappears in Sao Paulo during a day that turns night because of meteorological phenomena and smoke from forest fires. Weeks go by, and Fabio grows closer to Louise. He is a trans man and a caregiver for the elderly. She is ill and living far from her family in France. While aiding Louise (a cis woman), Fabio's relationship with her matures into understanding, affection, and exchange. He becomes her rock. Fabio's memories and dreams offer a closer look at his coming-of-age and his dilemmas about sexuality and gender. The story unfolds in a country with a polarized society and under political and financial turmoil. While Fabio must overcome the recent end of a romantic relationship, Louise feels the pangs of loneliness and her near death. Now Fabio and Louise have each other to rely on and learn to say their goodbyes. THAT DARK DAY has won the “Silver Rabbit” award - Audience’s Choice for Best Brazilian Short Film - at MixBrasil Festival of Diversity Culture 2022.

About the Director(s)
Daniel Guarda has directed and edited two short fiction films. “Feeling Blue”, premiered at Cine MIS, in São Paulo; competed for Best Experimental Film at the Festival de Cinema De Três Passos (Rio Grande do Sul); and was selected for the Encontro Nacional de Cinema e Vídeo dos Sertões (Piauí), the PraCine Festival (São Paulo), and the International Festival Signes de Nuit, in Paris. His other short film, “Id”, competed for Best Fiction Film at the Festival Internacional de Cortometrajes FENACO (Peru); at the Festival Brasileiro de Cinema Universitário, (Rio de Janeiro); at the Festival Rumo à Estação Cinema (Vitória), at Perro Loco - Latin American University Film Festival (Goiânia) and was also selected for the Mostra do Audiovisual Paulista (São Paulo). Daniel was the post-production coordinator for the web series “O Cara do Jaguar”. He edited the feature documentary “Alfredo Doesn’t Like Goodbyes”, winner of the Suzy Capó Award at the MixBrasil Festival, given to the most inventive and transgressive works. Daniel also edited two short fiction films: “Je Suis, Tu Es, Il Est” and “Wild Life”, the latter produced and shot in New York. In São Paulo, Daniel created and edited both a site-specific video art displayed at Cartel 011, and the video installation “Hard Brain”, for PopPorn Festival.
