LOS ANGELES, April 10, 2023 | Filmmaker Sophie Galibert’s feature dramedy “Cherry” — which was awarded Best Director for Galibert and Best Actor for Alexandria Treuwhitt in the title role at the 2022 DTLA Film Festival— will open this month for a theatrical run in Los Angeles. The theatrical release will be followed by its streaming platform release.

The film tackles the hot-button issue of abortion as a young, seemingly carefree woman has 24 hours to make the most important decision of her life: whether or not to keep an unplanned pregnancy. The film enjoyed its Los Angeles theatrical premiere during last year’s DTLA Film Festival at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles.

“We’re always thrilled to hear when one of our alumni’s films enjoy a theatrical release. We were enchanted by Sophie’s movie and Alexandria’s stunning performance, and know that audiences everywhere will enjoy it as well,” said Festival Director Greg Ptacek.

Films capturing the Latinx experience in America get the spotlight at the 13th Annual DTLA Film Festival

Unique stories told from a Latin perspective play an important part in this year’s DTLA Film Festival…which kicks off Wednesday night. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, one of those movies, ‘Carlos Through the Tall Grass’ opens the festival’. Another called ‘The Rest of Us’ follows the lives of five undocumented students over seven years. It closes the festival. The festival’s director of programming Karolyne Sosa talked more about it.

DTLA Film Fest’s 2022 Art Director – Carlos Sosa

The banner on our home page is by Los Angeles artist Carlos Sosa. Its vibrant colors and classic cinema imagery set the tone for this year’s festival — renewal, rebirth and renovation. After a two-year pandemic hiatus, the festival is positively joyous about returning as a live event. We think Carlos’ design for this year’s key art says it all.

Your can see more of Carlos Sosa’s artwork during the festival at his exhibit in the Cinema Lounge on the mezzanine level of Regal L.A. LIVE, and among the art featured at an exhibit of DTLA artists at SAS Movie Studios.
